In his editorial to the Spring 2021 edition of this journal (Volume 38, Number 2), Geoff Teece referred to the publication of Schools Council Working Paper 36 as a possible paradigm shift in thinking about RE. Such a view might be debatable, but what cannot be denied is that it marked a significant development in RE. Denise Cush and Mary Hayward refer to it as a revolution and here present a wonderfully valuable account from the perspective of (1) a trainee teacher at the time and (2) someone who actually worked on the project.
