We have been privileged in Professional REflection to be able to publish a number of thought-provoking articles arising from the Commission on RE report, including recent pieces from Trevor Cooling and Joyce Miller. Here Denise Cush, another member of the Commission, has written an immensely rich and deeply informed contribution about the nature (or potential nature) of the subject we teach. This first part of the article draws largely on her experience as an academic working in the field of RS/study of religions. In the next edition, the second part will draw more on her experience as a religious educator.
